W.

He's a lame duck with currently the lowest approval ratings ever. We're on the verge of electing his replacement, but even before we do that a movie about this man will hit theaters courtesy of Oliver Stone and Lionsgate. I'm talking about George W. Bush.

I'm certainly curious and I bet so will everyone else. Early reviews are lukewarm to the movie, but who really cares, right? America is fed up with our current president and what better way to celebrate the end of his run, then with a satirical drama. With a tag line, "Anyone can grow up to be the president", how else are we to view this movie?

Now I'm not an Oliver Stone fan -- at all (Alexander, anyone?). Although he sure does love his Presidents (JFK and Nixon), and frankly, those are the movies I enjoyed the most from Mr. Stone. Which brings me back to W.

First of all, the cast looks great and believable (Josh Brolin, Thandie Newton & Richard Dryfuss specifically). Also, the trailer does a pretty good job of selling the movie.

But is it too soon to for this biopic? Shouldn't we have another 10 to 15 years before digging into the life and times of George W.?

I honestly don't think it's too early. The movie just needs to be good. We'll just have to wait till Oct. 17th to find out. Here's the trailer:

Once

As I mentioned in my last post, Juno was my favorite movie of 2007. But had I seen "Once" in the theater instead of at home (courtesy of Netflix), I may have changed my answer. I wish Tom had viewed it with me, but I waited till he was on a plane to CES thinking it wasn't his kind of film.

I think I was wrong, because first it's set in Dublin, a city he wants us to visit on our next international trip. Second, the music is amazing and I think he would've been as moved as me.

This early scene gave me the goosebumps and from that point on I knew why so many people loved the film. Yeah, I am a little late on the scene, but for whatever reason Tom & I rarely went to the movies in '06-'07.

Of late, we've been frequenting our local movie theater. But there's a smattering of films we just missed over the last couple of years. Quite honestly, with all my TV shows down due to the writer's strike I've had more time to catch up and watch those films.

Now I know what I've been missing.
