Whose Healthy?

Me: Yeah, I try and work out. I've only been averaging about 2 days a week right now Doctor: ok. Me: Yeah, I try and do 30 mins each session. I'll try for 3 or 4... Doctor: (sternly) ...5 days a week
This conversation took place during my yearly doctor's checkup a couple weeks ago. To be fair, my doctor is really patient, calm and encouraging. I believe she is a little more concerned that I am not getting enough exercise and it's the first time she's been this stern with me. Honestly, it kinda freaked me out. For years, I've been able to eat whatever I want and not really worry about my heart, enormous weight gain, etc.
I'm getting older and my lackadaisical eating habits are starting to catch up with me. My Mom had high blood pressure and my Dad has both high blood pressure and cholesterol. So there's cause for some reevaluation.
My point is that I really feel I need to get my act together, think about my eating habits and get to the freakin' gym that is located less than a mile from my house! I know, it's pathetic that I haven't gone in two weeks considering I could walk to the gym.
On the verge of the New Year, I will do my yearly Resolution right now. No gimmicky, unrealistic goals either!
To stay healthy:Â A) I will pay attention to what I eat, and B) step up the workouts. Seriously, 30 mins a day on the elliptical machine is nothing. No more excuses E!
That regimen will start after the first of the year. Now back to the chocolate and fried chicken ;)

I'm feeling the same way, he only exercise I'm getting these days is running after buses and attracting attention of taxi drivers in Edinburgh.
My idea of a 'good walk' is a 200 meter walk down the main corridor at work for snacks from the vending machine.
However, that's all going to change when I buy myself a new toy, a FitBit (fitbit.com) that tracks sleeping and exercise habits as well as food intake.
Seriously, I need to make exercise geeky and statistical otherwise I'm not interested at all.
Best of luck with your goals.:-)
Eileen,
I totally have the same issue. If I gain wait, I'll have curvature of the spine issues, so my doctor says.
I need to work out more! I'll be your e-workoutbuddy.
Seriously, we should join one of those online health club things. I really need buddies to stay motivated.
LoveMeDeux & Vinita - I wonder if there's a Ning site that we could join? Maybe a site where we could jott down eating habits and workout frequencies?
Would that actually help?
Ross - that FitBit looks amazing! Let me know if it helps you.
I've heard of a website that would help track what we eat, etc. but I can't remember what it is. I'll probably do it for a while and then give up. I really need to stay on track though. I'll do some research and let you know.
