Chocolate Review 4 - Denman Island Simply Dark Chocolate

We're back from our fabulous trip and I bought some local Canadian Chocolate for review. Let's start with the good - Denman Island Simply Dark Chocolate. I found it on Granville Island.

"Just chocolate, for purists" - description on Denman Island website. This is a deep and satisfying tasting chocolate. A bit sweeter than most dark chocolates, yet smooth and strong enough for the most critical dark chocolate lover. I regret not purchasing one of the other versions - like the hazelnut, or raspberry. But maybe I'll run into it somewhere in the states (Pharmaca in Berkeley for me).

Most of all buying this chocolate is not only tasty, but good for the environment. As an organic chocolate, you don't run the risk of pesticides in your sweet treat.

Price: $2.50 CAN

Rating: 4 out of 5 cacao beans

Vij's in Vancouver

Before I forget my experience, I thought I would write down one of the most amazing restaurants I have ever dined in - Vij's.

Our Lonely Planet Vancouver travel guide recommended this Indian restaurant praising the "Lamb Popsicles". They also mentioned that the wait is often long. So, Tom & I arrive at 5:20p (10 mins before it officially opens). Thankfully we arrived early because there was already a long line (they don't take reservations) to get in.

Once we were seated, we were immediately served Chai and Nan. What a nice touch! The wait staff was friendly and efficient. In fact, we have a revolving server. I think 6 different members of the wait staff checked on us, took our order, served our food, and gave us the check. It was interesting, as I felt like everyone cared about our well being and it seemed as if we were openly invited to speak to the family at Vij's.

Vij's dinner

We ordered the Salmon and the Wild Boar for appetizers. The sauce in both dishes were simply amazing. I don't even think amazing is the best word to describe the taste that rolled into my mouth.

I ordered the Short Ribs with the red wine curry for dinner. Let me say that each bite kept tasting better and better. The kale was paired so well with the tender short ribs. I was sad when the dish was over.

Tom had the Halibut and it was also delicious. The crab in the dish was the best part!

This was by far, the best restaurant I've eaten in, in Vancouver. It's probably the best Indian food I've ever had. It's that good! Why did the experience have to end?
