The Idol Times - Grand Ole Opry week

Sorry to bore those of you who could care less about this show, but once a week I really need some ear candy. I thought I could keep up with my predictions, but obviously I've done a horrible job since the first week. So here's a short review of each contestant and prediction:

It's Grand 'Ole Opry week which is not one of my favorites, but it tends to bring out the best and worst of singers. How funny was Randy Travis with Adam?

Danny - there's a lot of hate for this guy in the blog world (from those that actually watch the show) and I just don't get it. Check Dial Idol and guess who’s number 1? Yup it's Danny. Wasn’t his best night, but if you don’t like him, too bad. He’s not going anywhere and that’s the way it should be. When he got to the chorus, it was amazing (and I don't even like the song he sang).

ANOOP! So happy to see he’s back. I thought he was the best of the night. Loved, Loved, loved him! Way to just do it.

Matt - Woo hoo! Man I love this guy. I thought his performance was really nice.

Lil - bad song. I too wish that she had done I Will Always Love You. I still love her though.

Adam - Meh. Not my thing. I love the original version and I while I love the fact that he is unique, some of those falsetto notes were horrid. I don’t care if he’s over the top, I just care if he sings well. Tonight was not it.

Megan - great song choice for her. But honestly, sick or not sick, I CANNOT STAND HER PHRASING. Blech.

Alison - Great performance, but will people remember her?

Michael Sarver - the only one who really sang country tonight. I don’t like that song, but he served the genre well.

Chris Allen - this is the first time I really enjoyed his vocals. Great job!

Alexis - ugh. Poor thing. I did not like this interpretation. Did Brooke do this last year? I seem to remember liking Jolene last year and on paper you'd think this was a great choice for Alexis. What happened? I like her and I hope she doesn’t go anywhere.

Scott - I didn’t like his song choice. He’s an awesome pianist, but I just haven’t connected with him. He's kind of boring to me, but I want him to make the tour.

Going home: Alexis or Allison - although I'm thinking this could be the week the judges use the "save" option.

My personal faves: Danny, Anoop and Matt (in no particular order)

The New Look

While a enjoyed a little splash of cheery yellow, I decided that I needed a cleaner layout for this site.

This style is called Rhianna, and though I'm still tweaking it I think it looks pretty good. The biggest change will be the header. Ideas are welcomed!

In the meantime, I'm posting one of my very favorite Idol performances of all time, and it just happened last week! It's a performance of John Lennon's "Imagine" by David Archuleta. He's the front-runner this year and for very good reason.

More importantly, he delivered it in a way that moved even the harshest critics, at a time when this country needed to hear a song with a message about hope.

What's going down?

Hello people of 1 that may be reading this.

I thought a lot about posting over the last month, but I was kinda busy. I do spend a lot of time reading, surfing and downloading things on the web, but I just couldn't seem to find the time to post.

The Olympics are WAY over, but I enjoyed watching the events, even thought I knew the outcome 10 hours earlier (love that Yahoo! news). Since then I've been obsessed with the following: American Idol, Lost and Battlestar Galactica. Galactica is over till I think October (boo!), but I have plenty of A.I. and Lost to keep me happy.

Quick post about A.I. - I love grey haired man, Taylor, Paris, and Katherine. But what's not to love about Taylor? Damn, he's so fun to watch. He released an indie album right before A.I., and I have to say it's great! Here's one of his best performances. Even if you're not a fan of the song, only a person with a dead soul wouldn't have fun watching this.

As for the homefront - good news! We bought a condo in the land of our favorite baseball team - Oakland! I'm very excited, as we are living in an area of town that is walking distance to restaurants, cafes, and Lake Merritt! It's going to be a BIG transition for me, since I haven't lived outside of San Francisco for the last 15 years!

We abandoned the idea of buying a home in the Bay Area because the most desirable areas would have caused us large amounts of stress and possibly financial disaster - seriously!

Nevertheless, Tom & I are very anxious to move to a new town and into our own place!
