Goals for 2009

It's pretty simple. For the new year I'd like to do the following:

1. Eat smart

2. Step up the confidence in my beliefs and my abilities (sappy, I know)

3. 30-minute workouts 5 days a week!

4. re-launch a foodie blog with video

5. cook dinner at least twice a week (pre-made frozen stuff doesn't count)

6. Organize my home office

7. learn how to use my new DSLR

8. laugh A LOT

I may add more, but that's what I got for now.

I'm nervous...two days and counting

This week demolishing and destruction will take place at the back of my apartment and I'm a little nervous. I have no reason to be, but I think the thought of embarking on change always chokes me up at the beginning. Once it starts I'll be fine, but right now I'm asking myself "Did I prepare enough"?

Terms like "tub, left hand, tile flange" still confuse me, but I'm getting the hang of everything.

My topsy-turvy month ahead

Well, I almost blew off blogging for the month of February - ha!  I guess I'm sneaking in just in time.

Next month will be quite challenging for my patience.  Somehow Tom & I finally scrounged up enough money to pay for a bathroom remodel.  We would love to attempt the remodel ourselves, but there is no amount of medication and alcohol that would ease the pain.  Not to mention our blissful marriage would probably explode with such a venture.

It's bad enough arguing about how to carry a 48"x 21"granite vanity top up to our apartment.  I couldn't even imagine the war that would ensue while installing our beautiful subway tile.  So, it's best to keep our happy marriage intact and hire the professionals to deal with our moldy shower and outdated medicine cabinet.

I'm toying with the idea of making a daily video diary of the event. It would be for my own benefit, just to see how crazy I get.  Believe me, my life is pretty good right now so I preface all my complaining the next few months as idol whining.  If you don't like it, there's plenty of other places to read and view video.

I just need to document the small disruption I will go through for about 3 weeks.  I think it could be both frightening and comedic. We'll see what happens.

Dos Mil y Siete Anos - a short review

It's a new year, but before I really dive into 2008, I feel I must pause to review a few personal highlights:

  • Tom & I are home remodeling-challenged. Does that even make sense? Seriously, If I get a room remodeled in my house I will accomplish what seems like the impossible. But before I knock us down, he CAN change light fixtures and I do well with a paint brush. Crown molding and tile? Well, that's another story.

  • Bathroom remodel vs. Maui Time Share - Time Share won

  • Cafe con Leche is a morning ritual - thanks Barcelona!

  • The fall season = another weird Jango malady and a vet bill that stings (but she's worth it)

  • The A's are rebuilding till they get their new stadium - and I'm not a happy fan

  • Juno was my favorite movie of 2007

  • I love video editing

Clutter and paint - oh my!

I think we're making a breakthrough with the clutter in our home. Tom just bought a VHS DVD recorder and we're are making a dent on all the VHS tapes (and we have a lot). Converting the VHS to DVDs means more space will open up - yay! It's a small thing, but I think I finally have the thunder it takes to clean up and get the clutter out!

The office is still a mess, but at least I can see things a little more clearly. I'm finding organzation in my life pretty difficult to maintain. At work I'm a wiz, no problem. But for some reason I have a mental block at home. I guess it's one of those challenges in my life that i have to work through.

I'll have to take some before and after pictures of the home and post them here.
